The director of the film Vina: Before 7 Days, Anggy Umbara, said that he wanted to highlight this story because the case was considered to have not been resolved since 2016. Apart from that, Anggy explained, the production had received permission from Vina's family to make it onto the big screen. Regarding films that are considered controversial and should be boycotted, Anggy was surprised by this expression.

Chairman of the Indonesian Film Censorship Institute (LSF), Rommy Fibri Hardiyanto, assessed that the film Vina: Before 7 Days is a thriller and crime drama film.
In this genre, films also present scenes of violence, abuse, rape and murder. For this scene, Rommy considered that the violent scene, whether physical or visually proportional, did not appear to have an element of sadism.

Apart from that, the rape scene that was criticized also contained minimal elements of nudity. Apart from that, the rapists in the film did not exploit their sex in a vicious and wild manner. Rommy explained that the violent scenes in the film Vina: Before 7 Days were not presented or visualized clearly.

"For LSF, films with violent themes can only be shown to adult audiences," said Rommy.

Regarding the censorship criteria, Rommy said, the LSF's assessment criteria for the film Vina: Before 7 Days is a film that reveals a case that is packaged cinematically. Apart from that, the film is also declared suitable for adults aged 17 or over provided that the proportional violence is not visually sadistic and not vulgar in shots from various angles.

These criteria are contained in Government Regulation Number 18 of 2014 concerning Film Censorship Institutions in article 35. Regarding the issue of boycotts because they invite controversy, LSF always provides an assessment of all films.

Rommy explained that all films submitted to LSF, whether national or overseas and whatever genre they take, will be assessed. For films that do not meet the censorship criteria guidelines or do not comply with applicable laws and regulations, LSF will provide notes and input to the owner.

"For films that are considered controversial, LSF will open up space for dialogue, both with the owners, including continuing to provide film literacy to the public," explained Rommy.

According to him, films that are circulated at will are assessed on the basis of protecting the public from the negative impacts of films.
